How it works: we plan the build with you, install and tune it on our dyno, and you leave with the dyno sheet.

You put bigger tires on the truck, and now it feels slow and the speedometer is off. Or the side-by-side feels weak on the climbs. Or you just want a rig that can take a real trail without leaving parts behind.

Turbo Lab does off-road builds in Orem for trucks, Jeeps, UTVs, and side-by-sides. We build it, fix it, and tune it for the tires you run and the air you drive in.

“These guys are great. I had a transmission issue with my truck and they got it taken care of for me quickly and were super easy to work with. Can’t recommend enough!”

When you need an off-road build

Utah has some of the best trails anywhere, from the slickrock around Moab to the dunes at Little Sahara. Those trails are hard on stock parts. Rocks hit the underside, sand loads up the engine, and steep climbs heat everything up.

Orem also sits at about 4,700 feet, and many trails are higher. An engine without a turbo loses about 3% of its power for every 1,000 feet you climb. Add bigger tires, and a stock rig can feel tired fast.

  • You added bigger tires and lost power or gearing
  • The speedometer or shift points are off after a tire change
  • You're scraping or denting the underside on rocks
  • The suspension bottoms out or feels harsh on trails
  • The engine runs hot or weak on long climbs

Our off-road build process

We start with how you use it. Rock crawling, desert runs, dunes, and hunting trips all need different builds. Then we plan the parts to work together.

Lift and suspension come first on most builds. A lift gives room for bigger tires. Better shocks keep the tires on the ground and the ride under control. We check steering, driveline angles, and alignment after, so it still drives right on the road. We can install nearly any lift or suspension brand.

Trucks get the full treatment here. We work on a lot of Ford F-Series, Chevy Silverado, and Ram trucks, and we can do almost any engine or suspension job on them. Need a bracket or mount that no one sells? Our fab shop builds it in-house. We don't work on trailers.

Then we tune. Bigger tires change the gearing, so we can correct the speedometer and shift points. We tune for our altitude and Utah's 91 octane gas. We also tune Polaris and Can-Am side-by-sides.

Off-road build cost in Orem

The price depends on the vehicle, how far you want to go, and the parts you pick. A tune and speedometer fix costs far less than a full lift and suspension build. You get a written quote before we start, and no work starts until you say yes.

The lift, the fab work, and the tune from one plan

We fabricate, install, and tune in one shop, with our own AWD Dynojet on site. So the lift, the fab work, and the tune all come from one plan. We've been building and fixing vehicles on Center Street since 1999.

Off-road builds questions

Do I need a tune after bigger tires?

Often, yes. Bigger tires change the gearing, so the speedometer reads wrong and the shift points feel off. A tune can correct both. Very big tires may also need new gears.

Do you work on UTVs and side-by-sides?

Yes. We tune Polaris and Can-Am side-by-sides, and we install lifts and suspension on UTVs.

Do you tune snowmobiles?

No. We don't work on snowmobiles. We do tune Polaris and Can-Am side-by-sides.

Will a lift make my truck ride worse?

It can if the parts don't match. Good shocks and the right alignment make a big difference. We plan the lift so it still drives well on I-15.

Why does my rig feel weak in the mountains?

Thin air. An engine without a turbo loses about 3% of its power for every 1,000 feet you climb. A tune for our altitude helps, and so does a turbo on some engines.
