★★★★★

“Fast, good work! And cheap! Got my starter changed for pretty cheap while I was at work. Only took a couple hours, and an employee even gave me a ride to work! So far, the only place I have been for repairs on my car”
The Birdwatchers, Google review

You turn the key on a cold morning and the engine turns over slow. Or it just clicks. Or nothing happens at all, and you're late. A dead car is never convenient, and it always seems to happen on the coldest day of the year.

Turbo Lab does battery replacement in Orem, plus starter and alternator repair. We find the part that failed first, so you don't buy a new battery when the real problem is the part that charges it.

When you need battery replacement

A battery usually gives a few warnings before it quits. Don't wait for the tow truck. Watch for these signs:

  • The engine cranks slow, most of all on cold mornings
  • A click or a fast clicking sound when you turn the key
  • Dim headlights or dash lights at startup
  • A battery light on the dash while you drive
  • White or green crust on the battery terminals
  • The battery is more than a few years old

Battery Replacement

Cold weather is hard on batteries. A battery has less power when it's cold, and a cold engine is harder to turn over. Summer heat in Utah wears the battery down, and then the first cold snap finds the weak one. Most car batteries last about three to five years.

We replace it with the right size and type for your car. Many newer cars with start-stop use an AGM battery, and some need the new battery set up in the car's computer. We clean the terminals and check the cables too. The battery carries its maker's warranty.

Starter and Alternator Repair

Sometimes the battery is fine. A single loud click with bright dash lights often points to the starter. A grinding sound when you start the car can too.

The alternator charges the battery while you drive. When it fails, the battery light comes on, the lights dim, and the car runs on the battery until it dies. A new battery won't fix that. It just dies again in a day or two. We test the alternator's output and check for anything draining the battery while the car sits. Then you know which part failed before you pay for one.

Battery replacement cost in Orem

The price depends on your car and the battery it needs. A standard battery costs less than an AGM battery. Cars that need the battery set up in the computer, or have the battery under a seat or in the trunk, take more time. Starter and alternator prices depend on the part and how hard it is to reach. You get the price before we start, so you only pay for what failed.

The right part, not just a new battery

We find the part that failed before we replace anything, so you don't buy a battery you didn't need. We fix the starter and alternator too, all in one shop. You're welcome to wait, or drop the car off after hours and we'll call you with the price. And we've fixed cars on Center Street since 1999, for Orem drivers. Our work is covered by our warranty.

Battery replacement questions

How long does a car battery last?

Most last about three to five years. Hot summers and cold winters both wear them down faster.

Why does my car battery die in the cold?

A cold battery has less power, and a cold engine takes more power to turn over. A battery that was weak all fall often fails on the first cold morning.

Is it my battery or my alternator?

If a jump starts the car but it dies again soon, or the battery light is on while you drive, the alternator may not be charging. We check both before we replace either one.

How long does battery replacement take?

A battery swap is usually quick. Starters and alternators depend on how hard the part is to reach. You're welcome to wait, but call first, because appointments come first. We also have after-hours drop-off and pickup.

Can a bad battery cause other problems?

Yes. Low voltage can cause warning lights, odd electrical glitches, and a hard start. Some of those go away once the battery is replaced.
