How it works: tell us what it's doing, we find the cause and quote it, and nothing starts until you say yes.

Your brakes started squealing. Or grinding. Or the pedal feels soft, or the car pulls to one side when you stop. Brakes are the one thing you can't put off for long.

Turbo Lab does brake repair in Orem on cars, trucks, and SUVs. We measure what's left on your pads and rotors, show you, and tell you what can wait and what can't.

Squealing, grinding, or a soft brake pedal?

Bring it in if you notice:

  • A high squeal when you brake (the wear warning on many pads)
  • Grinding, which often means metal on metal
  • A pulsing or shaking pedal or steering wheel when you stop
  • The car pulls to one side when you brake
  • A soft or low pedal, or one that sinks
  • A brake or ABS warning light

Brake Pad Replacement

Pads wear out with every stop. We measure the pads on all four wheels and replace them in pairs when they're low. We also clean and grease the slides and hardware, so the new pads wear evenly and don't squeak.

Brake rotor replacement

Rotors are the discs the pads squeeze. They wear thin over time, and uneven deposits can make the pedal pulse. We measure each rotor and tell you whether it can be reused or needs to be replaced. Most modern rotors are thin enough that replacing them costs about the same as machining them.

Calipers, brake lines, and brake fluid

A caliper that sticks can make the car pull and wear one pad out fast. Brake fluid soaks up water over time, which lowers its boiling point and can rust parts from the inside. We check calipers, hoses, and lines, and test your fluid. A brake fluid flush is cheap and helps everything else last.

Performance brake upgrades

More power means you need more stopping. For track days, canyon drives, towing, or a car with a lot more power than stock, we install upgraded pads, rotors, lines, and big brake kits. We match the parts to how you drive, so they work on the street too, not just on the track. See our performance upgrades.

Canyon grades and road salt: brake wear in Orem

Our roads are hard on brakes. Long downhill runs from Provo Canyon, American Fork Canyon, and the Point of the Mountain build heat that wears pads and rotors faster. Ski trips up the canyons add more. Then winter road salt eats at calipers, hardware, and brake lines.

If you drive the canyons often or tow, have your brakes checked at least once a year.

See the old parts and the measurements

We show you the old parts and the measurements, so you see why they need replacing. You get the price in writing first. If your brakes have life left, we tell you that too. We've fixed brakes on Center Street since 1999, and our work is covered by our warranty.

Brake repair questions

How much does brake repair cost?

The brake check is free. Pads, or pads and rotors, vary a lot by car and by part, so we quote it in writing after we look.

How long do brake pads last?

It depends on the car and how you drive. Canyon driving, towing, and stop-and-go traffic wear pads faster. We measure yours and tell you how much is left.

Why are my brakes squealing?

Many pads have a small metal tab that squeals when the pad is getting low. Squealing can also come from dust, glazed pads, or missing hardware. We check which one it is.

Is it safe to drive with grinding brakes?

Grinding usually means the pad is gone and metal is rubbing metal. That hurts stopping and ruins rotors fast. Get it checked as soon as you can.

Do I need new rotors every time I get pads?

Not always. We measure the rotors. If they're thick enough and smooth, they can stay. If they're thin or uneven, new ones stop better and last longer.
